Your Contact Details
Contact details is a card on your profile. It holds what GeoHazardWatch knows about how to reach you: your name and email, your phones, your addresses and an emergency contact, so the people who look after the site can reach you, or someone close to you, when they need to.
What you can fill in
- Name and email: the name others see on the site, your given and family names, and your email. Emailed sign-in links go to that email.
- Phones: a home phone, a mobile phone, a work phone and one other phone, each with an extension if it has one. Fill in only the ones you want.
- Emergency contact: the name, phone and email of someone to call if something happens to you.
- Home address and mailing address: the street, city or town, state or region, postal code and country. Fill in the mailing address only if your post goes somewhere else.
- More about you: the languages you speak (for example "English, Spanish"), the web address of a photo of you, and links to web pages about you, one per line.
Your username, your roles, and your title in this site's own organization are not changed here. Ask the site administrator.
Phones and countries
- Each phone and each address has its own country list. It starts on the site's usual country; change it for a number or an address in another country.
- Type a phone number the way you are used to, for example
(415) 555-2671. The country beside it says how to read it. A number that starts with+and a country code, such as+44 20 7946 0958, keeps that code whatever country is chosen. - After you save, the number is shown the way it is written in its own country.
- Put an extension in the extension box beside the number, digits only. Typing
x12after the number works too.
Saving
- Change what you want and press Save contact details. The card says when your details are saved.
- To remove something, empty its box and save.
- If something is not right, the card says which box it is, for example "Mobile phone", and nothing is saved until you correct it.
- Changing your email: type the new address and save. Your email does not change yet: we send a link to the new address, and the card says "We sent a link to" that address. Your email changes when you click the link and press Confirm this email. Until then your old email stays, and your old address gets a note that a change was asked. The link works once and only for a while; to get a new one, change your email again. If you ask many times in a short while, the card asks you to wait before another link is sent. Changing your email may ask you to sign in again first, because emailed sign-in links go to it.
- If this site cannot send email, you cannot change your email here. An administrator can change it for you.
- Two accounts may use the same email, for example a couple who share one. An emailed sign-in link to that email then asks which account to sign in to, and the link works for any account on it, so anyone who can read that mailbox can sign in to each of them. An administrator's account never shares its email with another account.
- On a shared account, the name and email can only be changed by an administrator. Its other details can still be changed here.
Who sees them
- You see and change your own contact details. Nobody else can change them from your profile.
- People this site lets manage contacts, such as its administrators, can also see them. Some parts of the site, for example an association's records, may show or fill in the same phones and addresses.
- Each time you save, the site records which of your details changed, but not what they are.
